I visited my Chinese herbalist today. We chatted while he mixed up my takeaway of dried bark and fungus cubes.
I told him that when I lived in Japan, I was told that it is better to have a minor illness. That way, you look after yourself and have more respect for your health.
He nodded in a sage way. ‘We say in China that a bowl with small cracks will last the longest time.’
