Today I baked a double batch of chocolate chip biscuits for a friend. It’s a New Zealand recipe that contains condensed milk. If you double the recipe you need an entire tin of condensed milk, which is the reason why I always double the recipe. Who wants to keep half a tin of condensed milk? Who wants to throw it away?

I ate eight biscuits while they cooled, which was quite exciting for my pancreas.

When I met my friend I handed over the goods like a selfless hero. ‘No, please take them, I baked them for you and your family.’ When I got home, I made a cup of tea and started in on the six biscuits I’d kept aside to eat over the next couple of days. I have three left.
