My mother is a whirlwind this morning. Lisa, her cleaner, is coming today and Mum likes to have the place tidy for her.

She’s been whirling since 6:30am: changing and washing bedding, emptying bins, putting dishes away, putting the rubbish and recycling out.

She scolded me for giving away the leftovers of last night’s potato curry.

‘Lisa might have liked that for lunch,’ she said.

Lisa is more of a friend than an employee.

As it should be.
