I left New Zealand and my family yesterday. I spoke to Mum this morning from Sydney. It’s all go with her.

She’s back at home from the beach house and has done two loads of washing, ‘All the sheets and towels. A nice breeze here. Got them all dry.’

Talking over the food, chaos and joy of our family Christmas: apparently, my sister’s pavlova was a triumph. The other contender, not so.

‘It went back home with them.’

Mum’s tiramisu was all eaten. A very satisfactory result.
