Exit, Stage Right

May 30, 2017

I’m on a train bound for Scotland where I will stay with my elderly aunt.

When the train stopped at Edinburgh, I happened to be mid-carriage as a youngish German man was grappling with the door.

‘What?’ He shouted, outraged. ‘You have to put your arm out of the window to open the door from the outside?’

The man looked back into the train seeking an audience and understanding. No one showed him any sympathy. They were eager to get off and he was causing a delay.

The guard on the platform opened the door. The man exited with a flourish and a loud ‘Unbelievable!’ into the face of the smirking guard.

I wasn’t sad to see him go. The man had been annoying me since London.
