I was talking to an antiquarian bookseller last night about the value of books today (not good). We were at the Everyman’s Library anniversary event at Spencer House. Very dainty canapés.

Another gent joined us. He was polite and charming. The bookseller mentioned that he is now 72 and has seen a lot of changes. The new man smiled. He’d seen a lot more changes than the bookseller. ‘You’re just a chicken,’ he said. ‘I’m 90.’
