The All Blacks are playing Australia tomorrow and my 82-year-old mother is already getting worked up. She’ll be watching the match live at 5am on Sunday, New Zealand time, with her neighbour Dennis. I suggested that she wear a blood pressure monitor but she brushed me off. ‘As long as it’s a good match, I’m fine.’ Then she added, ‘I just get up and walk away when it gets rough.’ But it will be rough, I said. They are playing the Australians. ‘You think I don’t know that?’ she said. ‘Bastards.’
