Amber Light

Today I was driving my mother from an appointment when the traffic lights up ahead turned amber. Marion was a zippy, impatient driver and is a bossy, impatient passenger. I saw the amber light and floored it. It was either that or brake suddenly.

‘You’re getting good at running orange lights,’ she said. It was a compliment.
