Top travel tip from my 82-year-old mother (as told to my sister when she visited me in Japan 25 years ago): When using a public toilet cubicle, hang your handbag on the back of the door because thieves will use umbrellas to hook it out from under your feet. Fortunately, my sister never had a handbag and never left anything on the floor of a public toilet. She returned home with all her belongings intact.
