We were back visiting Garry at the booze department again today, topping up stocks before Christmas. Garry is an enthusiastic wine drinker and seems to have tried every bottle on his shelves. We got on to the subject of health, the health of his liver to be precise. Apparently, it’s in good nick. He told Mum he doesn’t take medications.

‘I like to do it naturally,’ he said. ‘I take hawthorn and aged garlic.’

Mum laughed. ‘I thought there was a funny odour about you.’

Garry, the good sport, laughed all the way to the chiller where he fetched Mum three bottles of chardonnay.
