We visited the local supermarket today to stock up on wine for my mother’s 85-year-old sister Joy.

Joy likes a sauvignon blanc in the afternoon. She drinks her wine out of a coffee mug because she likes to sit outside and doesn’t want her neighbours knowing what she’s drinking.

Mum, her younger sister by 18 months, prefers chardonnay. She drinks it out of a glass because she doesn’t care what people think.

Barry (in the photo) runs the alcohol aisle at the supermarket. He started laughing when he saw Mum.

‘She comes in here and gives us hell,’ he said. ‘We love her.’
